Common questions about the free invoice generator.
Is this invoice generator really free?
Yes — completely free, no signup, no watermark, no usage limit. You can create and download as many invoices as you want. Operaite makes the tool free because we want to introduce small business owners to our paid command center, but you're never required to upgrade to use this generator.
Do I need to create an account to download my invoice?
No account required. Fill in the form, click Download PDF, and you'll get a clean, professional invoice file ready to send to your client. We do offer an optional account if you want to save invoices and access them later — but it's optional.
What format is the invoice downloaded in?
PDF — the standard format every accounting system, email client, and bookkeeper expects. The PDF is a real vector PDF (not a screenshot), so the text stays sharp at any zoom level and is searchable and copyable.
Can I add my own logo to the invoice?
Yes. Upload a PNG or JPG of your logo using the logo field — it will appear in the top-left of every invoice you generate. Your logo never leaves your browser; it is encoded directly into the PDF on download.
Will my invoice data be saved?
Your work is auto-saved in your browser (localStorage) so if you accidentally close the tab, you'll come back to where you left off. Nothing is sent to our servers unless you choose to create a free Operaite account to save invoices to the cloud.
Can I send the invoice directly to my client from this page?
Currently the generator downloads a PDF that you can attach to an email yourself. Direct send-to-client is included in the full Operaite app along with payment links, recurring invoices, and client management.
How is this different from Operaite's paid invoicing feature?
This free generator creates one-off invoices. The full Operaite app includes auto-fill from your business profile, client management, recurring invoices, payment status tracking, branded email delivery, Stripe payment links, and integration with the rest of the small business command center (review responder, marketing audit, accounting, scheduling and 8 more tools) for $29/mo with a 7-day free trial.
What information should I include on a professional invoice?
At a minimum: your business name and contact info, your client's name and contact info, a unique invoice number, the issue date and due date, an itemized list of services or products with quantities and rates, the subtotal, tax (if applicable), the total amount due, and your payment instructions or terms. Our generator prompts you for all of these.
Can I use this generator for my freelance or contractor business?
Absolutely. The generator works for freelancers, contractors, consultants, agencies, trades businesses, retailers, and service providers — anyone who needs to send a professional invoice. The line items are flexible, so you can charge by hour, by project, by unit, or by milestone.
What currencies are supported?
USD, CAD, GBP, EUR, AUD, and NZD. The currency selector changes the symbol displayed on the invoice; it does not perform live currency conversion.
Are the invoices legally compliant?
The generator produces a professional invoice document. Specific legal/tax requirements vary by country, state, and industry — check with your accountant or tax authority for any region-specific fields you may need to add (e.g., VAT IDs in the EU/UK, GST in Australia/Canada). The free-form notes field can be used to include any required text.
How long does it take to make an invoice?
Under a minute for a simple invoice. Fill in your business details once (auto-saved for next time), add your client and line items, click Download PDF. The longest part is typing the line item descriptions.
